The Period BookThe Period Book: Everything You Don't Want to Ask (But Need to Know) should be recommended reading for all parents (yes, fathers included) or anyone else who is helping to raise soon-to-be teenage girls and then they can pass it on to the girls themselves. That it was co-written by a fifteen year old probably helps make it more relevant to what is actually important to a preteen. “Who cares about stupid diagrams, the important thing is: What will my friends think!” No doubt this is why the first chapter is all about ‘Changes of Puberty - Those You Can See’. Great illustrations too! It deals with body image, sexuality, vaginal health and menstrual product alternatives while sticking to a street cred tone that’ll win over any premenstrual teen. There is a fabulous “how to” section that could have come in handy for many of us who tried to figure out the whole tampon thing for ourselves!Authors: Karen Gravelle and Jennifer Gravelle, illustrations by Debbie Palen Price: $11.95 |
