The Sexy Book of Sexy Sex
The Sexy Book of Sexy Sex is a fun and fantastical read if not sometimes a tad over the top. This is a book that uses humor to challenge our societies ideas about sex and sexuality. Amusing photos, graphics, and charts abound. Parody is rampant. Sexual freedom, sexual expression, Sexperts and the politics of sex are tossed about with irreverence. By pushing the envelope and poking fun at how mainstream society looks at sex and sexuality Kristen Schaal (from Flight of the Concords) and Rich Blomquist (from Saturday Night Live) created a book that both challenges and entertains the reader.
The book features pop culture references such as the Vagina Monologues and the famous Cosmo “how to be a bad girl” tutorials as well as making purposively ridiculous claims about the scientific/ biological aspects of sex. The book also features “historical” and futuristic stories and scenarios. Highlights include the Sex/Sexuality throughout the ages chart featuring the current vampire obsession and the “Dil-DO and Dil-Don’t Household Objects that Can and Can Not be used as Dildo’s chart. Cactus? No.
While fun, a word of caution: this book is best read a little at a time. Reading it all in one go can be a little overwhelming … kind of like a friend who doesn’t know when to stop the “that’s what she said” jokes.
