Tip of the Iceberg

Tip of the Iceberg is reminiscent of the The Yellow Submarine book but not so phallic! (When I first saw The Yellow Submarine cartoon in grade 3 - I attended an alternative creative school for gifted kids - I missed the whole phallic point, but really that Yellow submarine, come on!). Tip of the Iceberg is more of a "Magical Mystery Tour" of the clitoris. It is utterly charming, unpretentious yet obviously the result of a lot of hard work and research. The words and illustrations work well together and a sense of artistic humour infuses the whole book and makes it a joy to read. It is full of quirky little surprises. We don't know what the cat is doing on page 25 but it only makes sense that a cat would be looking for some attention by that point in the book. This charm does not mean that this book is light on facts though. The suggested reading list at the back shows that the author has done some comprehensive and interesting research to create this book. Midway between cartoon and textbook, this self-published gem should appeal to readers of all ages and is much easier to carry around than the latest, tome version of Our Bodies, Ourselves!
