Polyurethane Condoms: Female Condom

Female Condom is a great alternative to standard condoms. Made of polyurethane, it is a safe option for users with latex allergies. Because it’s not latex, users can apply oil based lubricants and the polyurethane allows for more heat transfer than does latex. Since this condom is inserted into the body, it takes the shape of the body cavity rather than constricting the penis (good for anal sex or vaginal though you won’t find any mention of the anal potential on the packaging). The condom can be inserted ahead of time, without having to wait right up to the point of penetration, so there is no break in the action. Finally, this condom offers better coverage outside the body than the standard penis-covering so both partners have better protection from genital warts, etc. We have heard great reports from users of all genders and orientations.

Since we started carrying this product we have been working on the assumption that with greater numbers of people using the product every year it would eventually come down in price. Supply and demand don't ya know?! The opposite is proving to be true. Annually, like clockwork, the price goes up. We understand the price increases to be related to two factors: (1) petroleum pricing (polyurethane is petroleum based) and (2) exchange rates (the product is made in England so tied to the Euro). That may have some impact, though petroleum pricing only spiked in 2005 and all imports must account for exchange rate pricing, but we can't help but conclude that pricing is also about margins. Not enough sex educators are promoting the Female Condom alternative. Not enough retailers are taking the care to explain its benefits to aid consumers in choosing it despite its higher cost in comparison to latex. And media is falling down in its responsibility to promote better birth control and STD protection alternatives and female control over reproductive choice. When demand is low, supply pricing will inevitably follow. Sad. Available as singles or save by buying ten!.

Price: $5.00 per condom; $20.00 per 5 (Female Condom)
