New! Happy Canada Day (July 1) brings with it not just a visit from Queen Elizabeth but a shift in our sales tax system from what can best be described as an awkward part-provincial-part-federal collection hybrid to an integrated all federal with provincial consideration system.

For all our customers from outside of Canada you still pay NO sales tax on the products you buy.

For all our Canadian customers you still pay just 5% GST if you are not from an HST (that's the provincial consideration "bump up" on the GST rate) province. For Canadian customers who reside in an HST province, you still pay your HST.

For customers who live in a newly minted HST province, you pay the same amount of overall sales taxes, just not to two different taxers (the feds, and your province); with these exceptions: (1) Some provinces have seen fit to offer a point-of- sale rebate on books and feminine hygiene (Goddess Moon pads and Sea Pearl sponges, for example), bonus! (2) A few "unswayed by the female lobby" provinces have declined to exempt the feminine hygiene, maybe if it was renamed menstrual products they'd get it!! (3) One province, Nova Scotia, used the tax shift as an opportunity to increase its HST rate by 2% ... sorry Nova Scotians. Hope you're getting good services for your extra buck! (3) And all our customers will be paying a little bit more on the tax on the shipping, from 5% to 12%. This isn't too tragic when you break it down by example: $10 shipping costs 70 cents more, $15 shipping $1.05 more, $45 shipping $3.15 more.

All in all, a mild disturbance to our visit with the Queen!

New! Koi is a well-received new comer to the Classic Dual Vibes. We're proud to be a stop on the Art = Empowerment 2010 art show! February 10 - March 21, 2010 on The Drive. This show will visually exhibit the spirit of 2010 during the Olympics!

This multi-venue art show on Commercial Drive features 200 pieces of original art – all by individuals living with mental health disabilities. Many are celebrated artists in the community and have exhibited at events such as the Eastside Culture Crawl.

Themes reflect Olympic and Paralympic values of friendship, solidarity, peace, optimism, inspiration, fair play and empowerment.

All the art is for sale, with 100% of the proceeds going to the artists.

Pick up your free passport to The Spirit of 2010 on the Drive from any of the participating venues and have at least 10 participating venues initial their square (with a special "initial" from Womyns'Ware in the form of a little miniature Lady stamp!). Add to that that the author won us over as we read, since we started in a grumpy, perhaps hormonally influenced place of reluctance to read about puberty-in-reverse, and you have a fantastic book!

We've investigated our own inventory and found this to be the case only in Sweet Spots supplied to us within the last 60 days.

We are asking Womyns'Ware customers-particularly those who purchased a Sweet Spot in October, November, or December of 2009-to run the following test on their Sweet Spot, as follows:

If you run this test and do NOT experience either of these outcomes, also please let us know! This will help us determine which units are affected and which are not. Thank you for your attention.  Our reviewer enjoyed reading How Not to Date soooo much that she laughed until she cried (and spilled coffee all over *her* copy of the book). Curious about the cause of the mirth, our retailer picked up the coffee stained book and was running around the offices, reading out loud and laughing so hard there were tears! A good funny how-to manual about how to avoid dating the losers.
