Is our latest contest a clever tie-in to the current Hollywood writers strike? A well thought out synergy between the most iconic romance of them all, Valentines, and our iconic romantic situation ads? Or is it a shameless method of garnering new ideas to help us pull together the creative for the next series of TV ads? How about a bit of all of the above ...
This summer it’ll be time for us to produce a new three-part series of our Iconic Ads. To get the creative juices flowing, we’re looking for womynsware.com visitor input on plot by way of participation in our “Script our Iconic Ads” contest.
They’re “iconic ads” because each covers an iconic romance scenario. The current Iconic Ad tri-part covers: Champagne first date, wine & dine, and bubble bath. In each scenario, our hapless romantic gets all the right touches up until his final move where he uses the wrong tool, thereby blowing the romance! The Right Touch, Wrong Tools, We Can Help tag line completes the pitch. By way of example, here is the background pitch (absent the story board and script) for the completed series now in play:
You SHOULDN’T skimp on the dinning ... DON’T skimp on the after accessories.
(plastic utensils, NOT!).
You SHOULDN’T skimp on the Champagne ... DON’T skimp on the after accessories.
(stadium drinking helmet, NOT!)
You SHOULDN’T skimp on the bubble bath ... DON’T skimp on the after accessories.
(red speedo and snorkel gear, NOT!)
Now it’s your turn to be a Hollywood writer and submit your tri-part Iconic Ad Scripts to us for consideration. All contest entries must include three plot outlines. The current series all occur inside. We’d like the next series to be set outside. Think romantic upper deck of a fancy condo, beautiful backyard of a country, English garden, romantic cobble stone walk under a flowering magnolia tree as your set... pitch and win one of three fabulous prizes.
How to script your way to a successful pitch tips: storytelling is challenging when packed into a 15 second spot. You have to avoid pitching a scenario that is too literal. The script has to accommodate being shot as visuals with digital stills rather than video, so that the story unfolds in a sequence of stills with animated type and sound effects (along with the music, which will be the same track as in the current series) to pull it off. This depends on images that read really quickly. It’s most helpful to produce a series of 3 spots at the same time that can be played in rotation, with a similar look and feel, and recognizable soundtrack, using slightly different imagery/visual gags to make the point.
Creativity demands compressing the concept Right Touch, Wrong Tools, We Can Help into three iconic send ups that set up the main point, that "you wouldn't skip the accessories for the romantic iconic setting that is immediately recognizable as such to the average North American viewer ... why skip them after the initial romance has won you her heart and a key to her bedroom?!". From the initial set up - you wouldn't skip the accessories as represented by the iconic romantic setting - your script needs to bring home the “you SHOULDN'T” scenarios. What grotesque mistake, easily seen and recognized as such, has this hapless fellow made? What is the wrong tool to the right touch romantic setting?

Our Privacy Policy
Womyns'Ware Inc. guarantees that your confidentiality is absolute. Not only
will we not share your information, we don't even compile internal data
bases. As consumers, we've always hated the intrusiveness of unsolicited
mailings and cold phone calls so we're not about to impose this on our own
customers. Now, customers can expect (and seek recourse if their rights are
violated) better privacy protection from all Canada-based companies. New
federal legislation was enacted on January 1, 2001 when the Personal
Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act came into effect. This
legislation offers substantial protection to consumers doing business with
Canadian based businesses. As customers are probably only too well aware,
businesses routinely compile mailing lists, create customer profiles, and
sell information regarding customers. This will no longer be the case in
Canada as the new legislation will impose strict principles of consumer
privacy protection and subject businesses that violate the legislation to
steep fines. Of interest to our internet customers will be the provisions
requiring businesses to designate at least one staff person as accountable
for compliance with the legislation. Businesses must tell
customers why they want personal information (i.e., for special discounts,
mailing lists, shipping info, or database) prior to asking for the
information. More importantly, businesses can only ask for information that
directly relates to the stated purpose (i.e., you don't need to know gender
if the purpose is to gather shipping info). Businesses can no longer use
data gathered for one purpose for a later purpose. They have to get consumer
permission all over again. Trading customer lists is strictly prohibited. To
find out more about this legislation, contact http://www.privcom.gc.ca. Know
your consumer privacy rights and demand that companies honour them!
