Store Dogs Tutor

Womyns'Ware's two store dogs - Kentucky and Alabama, female Black & Tan Coonhounds, are in search of a new Tutor.

Our Dogs Aren't Dumb! They're more than just store dogs and staff companions, they've been trained to have manners in a wide variety of settings. Both dogs have advanced certification in obedience. In addition, Kentucky is trained in off-leash recall and master tracking. Alabama is in the process of learning the same skills. But where the store dog training really counts is with "Out and About Training" in place of "free for all" walks as would be the case if they were sent out with the average dog walking service.

More than just a Trainer or Tutor, their new Governess (or Governor) will pick up where their former Governess of four years (in Kentucky's case, one year for Alabama) left off. Daily engagement starting from the retail store location at 896 Commercial Drive, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with a focus on "Out and About" Dog Training. Ongoing training and socialization using positive reinforcement and negative punishment focussing on, but not limited to: polite behavior on leash in various city and park environments (dog parks, city sidewalks, dog-friendly stores, farmers markets, art shows, etc.). Also off leash training focussing on recall, keeping dog's attention, play, distance commands. All basic commands are worked with regularly to keep behaviors strong. Occasional desensitization work in consultation with the Dogs' Guardians.

The Trainer will work with each dog for 45 minutes or with both dogs together for 1 1/2 hours in locations that are appropriate for the work at hand. Hourly rate is dependent on the Trainer's certification status and a rate/kilometer fee is offered for necessary vehicle transportation to off-site locations.

Applicants should state their Canine Training Certification status, Training School affiliation if applicable, and other pertinent details. References are required as will be a 15 minute "demonstration training season" where method and technique can be assessed.
