Womyns'Ware is Famous!

Read the Westender's interview with our Retail Manager!

Can you briefly discussed how Womyn's Ware has evolved since its beginnings in 1995? Are the original owners still with the store?

Yes and Yes! We started out as a little store with a big dream and we've evolved into an integral part of the Commercial Drive and Vancouver business community! In the beginning we were visited by the brave and the curious and today we're happy to say we share much of the same demographic as Mountain Co-op Equipment and IKEA! We've actually been told that there should be a shuttle bus for visitors to Vancouver who want to make sure to check out what's new at each destination shopping point!

It makes us really happy to know that we're a family friendly shop and that our customers genuinely care about women's sexual empowerment. Our original owners are still hard at work building and managing the growth of the company and they still roll up their sleeves should the sales floor get swamped!

What's your favourite thing about working at Womyn's Ware?

For me personally (I'm the Retail Design + Display manager) it's the overall work culture. I love that everyone's word counts, that there are procedures and policies that are created on a frequent basis that evolve from customer feedback and I really love that new people can enter the store feeling guarded and leave feeling truly empowered.

Can you give some examples of how great sex--and empowered sexuality--can change your life?

Yes. I can compare it to physical fitness. When you live an active life and eek out a few minutes for your mind and body the rest of your life benefits in ways you might not have expected. The same goes for sexual empowerment...you may think that you are empowered because maybe you don't feel shame and or pain in your sexual expression but it can be more than pretty good.

I think that exploring, asking questions, practicing and playing are the keys to empowerment be they sexual or intellectual. If you feel great after taking a cooking class and learning Italian cooking 101 see how it feels to learn how to work a little bling into your sex life!
